P.Burgos PNP launches “ScubaSurero” coastal clean-up drive

To advocate the preservation of marine biodiversity and promote environmental protection, the personnel of Padre Burgos Municipal Police Station, led by PLT KEIR JHON R HALLASGO, Officer-In-Charge, launched coastal clean-up drive and a synchronized underwater clean-up activity dubbed as “ScubaSurero” earlier today, July 31, 2021 at Brgy, Sta. Sofia, Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.

The conduct of the coastal clean-up drive was made significant with the presence and participation of PCOL DANTE P NOVICIO, Provincial Director, Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office; LGU-Padre Burgos, thru Vice Mayor, Hon. Maria Fe Crispina B. Poblete and council; 1st Southern Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company (SLPMFC) led by PLTCOL GERALDO BENJAMIN A AVENGOZA, Force Commander; PLTCOL VICENTE S BULLECER, JR., Chief PCADU and Hon. Crispina M. Barcelon, Brgy. Chairperson, BLGU-Sta, Sofia.

Further, the active participation of various PNP Advocacy Support Groups of Padre Burgos, to include LGBT, KKDAT, KARANCHO and some Religious Groups also led to the success of the coastal clean-up drive.

Subsequently, PCOL NOVICIO, PLTCOL AVENGOZA, PLT HALLASGO, personnel of 1st SLPMFC, and other local divers led the conduct of “scubasurero”, coined from the terms scuba diving and “basurero” (garbage collector).

A total of 15 sacks of waste materials were jointly collected from the said activities which were realized through the support of various government institutions and other sectors.

“Following our call to maintain the cleanliness of our natural resources, I take pride in facilitating this initiative program as it engages government support and community partnership. It is such an environmental feat to be able to sustain this activity”, says PLT HALLASGO.

The unit is also looking forward to the conduct of similar activities geared towards the environmental protection.
